And so, it finally took place, the first ever E-LASS webinar. The seminar originally planned for June and then postponed and transformed to a September webinar was held. It worked, in my opinion, very well with the support of Zoom technology and a well-prepared moderator Franz Evegren. Interesting presentations from some of our Dutch members covered most of the morning session. Inspection and repair of composite constructions, an impressive RAMSSES demonstrator achievement and an introduction of the newly established national lightweight network in The Netherland, “D-LASS” The June seminar was intended to be run in The Netherlands, in cooperation with Damen, which motivated the morning focus on input from our Dutch friends.

It might perhaps be a sign of an increased maturity in technologies and business that we today hear a lot more about composite repair and inspection at our seminars than we did previously. A good sign, I think.

I was then given the opportunity to present the seven ideas for increased E-LASS member value that have been developed within the RAMSSES project. The proposal was further discussed during the afternoon in smaller groups and we received many constructive comments for consideration.

Presentations in the afternoon focused on large scale ship design and construction, with presentations from both ongoing EU projects with lightweight themes: RAMSSES and FibreSHIP. Their presentations accentuated the high readiness level of composites in ship building. Some material presentations followed that lifted new possibilities. It is good to see that information and technology input from other sectors continue to present new possibilities to the maritime group.

Our next event will take place in January. Hopefully we can meet in Nantes, France, however, most likely it will be once again a webinar. At least now we know this can be done in a good way.
